March 2010 Newsletter
Another New Year
And you thought we already had New Year’s! I am talking about your new Financial Year, which for most of us starts April 1st. Even if your year starts another month it s never too early or too late to think about your business, business processes, accounting software and how your computer use is aiding your business. If you are thinking of moving to a computerised system, whether for correspondence, financial records or business analysis, I am here to help. If you are reflecting on the set up of a current system, want to make changes but not sure how or if you should, need to get info out to the accountant, I am here to help. Year end has its own set of things to do and I can help with rolling over accounts and starting the new year right.
A New Year is a New Start – I wish you every success this finance year!

Payroll – what everyone needs to know
We’ve seen the news. We’ve heard the stories – changes are one the way for payroll, GST and ACC. As an employer you need to stay informed. There is a new secondary tax code, new ACC levies which will change the deductions from your employees and a new employee charity giving scheme. If you are not using a current payroll software package, be sure to use the IRD website to stay informed.
Payroll Giving Scheme CATCH
So your employees want to take advantage of the immediate tax credit by giving to their favourite charity through their pay. Sounds great BUT WAIT! If you do NOT file your Employer Monthly Schedule and PAYE returned electronically (IR Filing) your employees cannot give.
IRD has run out of room on their form and cannot add the extra column for tracking giving therefore they have said only employers who IR File can do this.

Payroll and MYOB
For those of you using MYOB Payroll you will have received communications from MYOB and myself about some of the new feature upgrades for 2010. Whether you decide to download an upgrade, purchase a CD-ROM or enroll for 12 months Support which includes your upgrade, talk to me first and I can help sort the best option for you. Remember, YOU MUST install the new program before your first pay run in April.
Tired of trying to calculate Student Loan, Annual Leave, Kiwi Saver etc., on you own. MYOB Payroll may be the answer for you. You can also ask me about other payroll options and software. We will find what suits your needs best.
Let’s chat.
Joke - MURPHY'S LAWS OF COMPUTING!
~ A computer program will always do what you tell it to do, but rarely what you want it to do.
~ For every action, there is an equal and opposite malfunction.
~ To err is human... to blame your computer for your mistakes is even more human; in fact it is downright natural.
~ He who laughs last probably made a back-up.
~ A complex system that does not work is invariably found to have evolved from a simpler system that worked just fine.
~ The number one cause of computer problems is computer solutions.
~ When you get to the point where you really understand your computer, it's probably obsolete.
~ The first place to look for information is in the section of the manual where you least expect to find it.
~ When the going gets tough, upgrade.
~ When you need to send an email quick, that's when the modem won't connect!
